University will manage 6,000 port residential network

Fleet, Hampshire– July 29, 2005 – Khipu Networks, An advanced systems integrator and Bradford Networks Channel Partner, announces the first UK installation of Bradford Campus Manager.

Khipu Networks have been awarded the tendered contract to supply and install Bradford Campus Manager to manage the 6,000 ports of the residence network.

Durham University selected Bradford Campus Manager as it met and exceeded the mandatory requirements to enhance and support the existing residential network.

Key reasons for selecting Bradford Campus Manager were: functionality provided, clientless operation, Out of band solution and of course the cost of the solution and on-going support.

Student Networks are commonly affected by problems caused by viruses / spyware which significantly affect the performance and availability of the network.

Many of the problems are inadvertently introduced to the network due to the following:

• Lack of Anti-Virus software or regular updates
• Lack of anti-spyware or regular updates
• Lack of recommended service packs (i.e. Microsoft critical updates)
• Lack of personal firewall
• Devices spoofing DHCP or having Bridging enabled

Bradford Campus Manager will be used to enforce registration policies:

• All users will authenticate to the Network
• All devices will be checked for anti-virus, anti-spyware protection during the network login process.
• Devices that fail to meet the minimum requirements of the Acceptable Use Policy will be automatically switched to a Quarantine network and provided with information as to why the device failed and opportunities to remediate the problem online or to contact the University Help Desk.

Therefore protecting the integrity of the network, enhancing the user experience, and significantly reducing the cost of supporting the network.
