Meru Networks, Bradford Networks Collaborate To Provide Secure Access Control In Wireless LAN Environments

Growing Number of Mutual Customers Drives Need for Guaranteed Interoperability

SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Meru Networks and Bradford Networks have teamed up to ensure that their common customers can easily implement enterprise or campus security policies using Bradford’s network access control solutions in Meru virtual-cell wireless LAN environments.

Bradford has joined Meru’s WINS (Wireless Interoperability and Network Solutions) partner program, and Meru has completed interoperability testing of Bradford’s NAC Director and Campus Manager appliances with Meru enterprise WLANs. NAC Director and Campus Manager provide automatic identity management, endpoint compliance and usage policy enforcement to enterprises and educational institutions and are easily added to existing networks.

Sarosh Vesuna, Meru’s vice president of business development, said Meru has created Bradford-specific MIB (Management Information Base) variables for its WLAN software and comprehensively tested the products in the WINS interoperability lab.

“Many of our customers already use Bradford as the NAC solution on their wired networks, and want to extend their established security policies to their wireless LANs using the same application,” Vesuna said. “With the interoperability of our products guaranteed, those customers know that a single, centralized security solution is available that will apply the same policies across their entire IT network, enterprise- or campus-wide.”

Rick Leclerc, Bradford’s vice president of technology partnerships, said, “Bradford is a leader in the education market, which is aggressively deploying wireless LANs. Our collaboration with Meru provides wireless users with secure, role-based access as they roam around large, geographically dispersed wireless networks.”

In addition to full interoperability with Bradford NAC solutions, Meru WLANs provide security across all four major areas subject to active wireless threats: perimeter defense, connection defense, network defense and remote threat defense. Meru security capabilities include a FIPS 140-2 Level 3 security gateway; online and wireless rogue detection and prevention; AirFirewall™ technology that eliminates rogue APs and “evil twin” attackers; policy enforcement based on user identity, location and/or application use; policy enforcement on peer-to-peer applications such as voice over wireless phones; comprehensive security for traffic-intensive applications such as voice and video; and secure remote access points which extend security policies and network access to telecommuters at home and employees in hotels.
