In fact, we have been struggling with the notion of using a
"client" as the key element ever since the Bradford install. Our
previous registration system registered MAC addresses and associated
them with a user. After all, when a node causes a problem, the first
step, troubleshooting and verification, entails looking at the device,
its switch port and in other log files. This is all linked to a MAC or
an IP address. Only when a user needs to be contacted, once facts have
been gathered etc..., does the user data matter.
We would live it if "client" became "node" or remained "client"
but this was a MAC and not a user.
