This information is intended to help Campus Manager sites using 3com
model 4300 switches. Out of the box, the SNMP does not support Link
up/down traps. You must modify the MIB on the 4300 switch to allow the
Link up/down trap to be sent.

The following instructions will allow you to set the 3Com 4300 link/up/
link/down traps.

Download and install MG-Soft MIB Browser
(Send for free evaluation key or purchase the software
Launch application)
Under tool menu, select "set window"
On "remote SNMP agent" line, enter the IP address of the 4300 switch you
need to modify.

On "OID to Set" line, enter the MIB address
1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.14.[ports 1-48] (Need to do this one time for every
port)
On "value to Set" line, enter the Value 1 (#1 is on, 2 is off, 0 is
unknown)
On the lower radio buttons, select integer 32

After typing in the IP address, set the port number as the last number
on the OID line. Press the top left button "set value to remote agent"

Repeat this process for each port, by changing the last number of the
OID value fro 1-48 for each port.

More Detailed info on the issue:
It turns out that the 4300 switch does support port up/down traps but
the feature is disabled by default in the MIB.

To enable the port up/down traps you need to browse the 4300 switch MIB
and on a port by port basis enable it.

To enable the port up/down trap change the value of
ifLinkUpDownTrapEnable OID (1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.14) to enable (per port
enable/disable). And, the system will send out the link up/down trap
correctly.

So that would be to change the value of OID 1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.14.1 to
integer value of 1 will set the ifLinkUpDownTrapEnable to enable for
port 1 So that would be to change the value of OID
1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.14.2 to integer value of 1 will set the
ifLinkUpDownTrapEnable to enable for port 2 So that would be to change
the value of OID 1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.14.3 to integer value of 1 will
set the ifLinkUpDownTrapEnable to enable for port 3 So that would be to
change the value of OID 1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.14.4 to integer value of 1
will set the ifLinkUpDownTrapEnable to enable for port 4 So that would
be to change the value of OID 1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.14.5 to integer value
of 1 will set the ifLinkUpDownTrapEnable to enable for port 5 So that
would be to change the value of OID 1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1.1.14.6 to integer
value of 1 will set the ifLinkUpDownTrapEnable to enable for port 6 and
so on. . .
