Brett,
This is happening because you are not entering a numeric value into the
Load In/Out % text areas when you are creating a utilization entry.
There are allot of considerations to take into account when setting
these values:
* Speed of the ports
* Uplink Speed
* Number of ports on the switch
* Number of clients on the network
* Administration Goals
* etc.....
We recommend that you set the values for MAX to 100 and the Rearm values
to 50. With these conditions set you can now let Campus Manager run for
a week or so.
After some data has been recorded, you as the administrator can now
use the Connection View to view the recorded data. From the Connection
View you can look at some of the values that have been recorded over
the week long learning period and make adjustments to these values based
on the recorded data and what your goals are.
So as an example:
If you look at the connection records and determine that typical
bandwidth is between 10-15% per connection. You might also see that
there are some connections that show up in the 80% range for long
periods of time. This would indicate file download/sharing by that user.
If one of your goals is to limit file sharing/downloading. One possible
approach would be to set the limit to 60% and setting up an alarm
mapping to notify the admin and user when the threshold is exceeded.
Many possible combinations are possible. It really depends on your
network and what your acceptable use policies are.
Hope this helps and if you have any questions or feedback please let us
know!
