1) How do we unregistered someone?
Delete the client machine (MAC) record from the Clients view.
The client record Everett Andrus is for the machine that Everett registered upon.
>From that point forward whenever we the MAC for that machine is seen it is Everett Andrus.
This is "N" registered machines to one person. Who registers the machine is always the network user.
2) Can a user register more than one system/MAC address to them?
Yes, "N" registered machines to one person.
3) When a user connects to a managed port (for preferred VLAN switching)
they are left in the default VLAN on that port (right now VLAN 1) long
enough to receive an IP address on that network before they are switched
to the registration VLAN. It seems to me it would be better to have the
default VLAN be either the Dead End VLAN (so they wouldn't get an IP at
all) or the Registration VLAN to start with so it doesn't slow down the
initial registration process.
Correct they get an IP from VLAN 1 before they get switched the registration VLAN.
Below are some examples:
Default VLAN1 when client connects that is unregistered
Port is switched to registration VLAN
Client registers
Port is switched to the clients Preferred VLAN if they have one set
If they do not have a Preferred VLAN then port is switched back to the hardware default
When client disconnects port is left in that VLAN
So if the default was dead end then this is what would happen
Dead end VLAN when registered client connects
Port is switched to Preferred VLAN of that client
When client disconnects port is left in that VLAN
Another client connects that is registered
Port is switched to Preferred VLAN of that client
When client disconnects port is left in that VLAN
Another client connects that is registered
Ports is switched to default VLAN (dead end) as client does not have a Preferred VLAN assigned
When client disconnects port is left in that VLAN
Depending on your environment make the default VLAN in the hardware
the most commonly used VLAN for that port to minimize switching.
4) When a user registers with Campus Manager, in contrast to the initial
connection to a network port, they are moved out of the registration VLAN
so quickly they don't see the success page. What's the best way to handle this?
We have delayed this success switch, however it seems like we need to delay this some more.
5) What does CM do on a linkdown trap?
Updates the client connection status to disconnected and closes the current client record for this
connection.
